About The Position
Role Requirements
Candidates for this ED position should be able to demonstrate background and experience in the following areas:
Leadership
The ED will possess a dynamic leadership style with the ability to engage and inspire people with lived experience, people with acquired various disabilities, their care partners, staff, volunteers, students, community arts educators, and artists. Critical thinking, problem solving and the ability to adapt to changing situations is critical.
Education and Experience
The ED will have relevant education with three to five years experience connected to fields related to inclusive arts education, arts related management or a related field.
Communication
The ED will be able to meaningfully engage people who experience various disabilities, their families, and others in creative expression through inclusive arts. This person will have excellent written, verbal, and technical skills and skills in developing and implementing marketing and outreach strategies.
Financial/Business Acumen
The ED will have experience in the creation and management of budgets and financial responsibilities including knowledge of and experience with not-for-profit organizations. The ED will have demonstrated success with grant writing, donor/sponsor solicitation, along with the knowledge of relevant funding and grant sources at all three levels of government, and corporate and private endowments.
Advocacy
The ED will have an understanding of and respect for rights, regulatory, ethical and/or social policy frameworks supporting persons with disabilities and developmental challenges.The ability to champion H’art’s goals and mission within the community and beyond is central to this position
Job Requirements
- Oversee the operations and day-to-day management of the organization
- Report to the Board of Directors
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of best practices in inclusive arts programming
- Create and implement policies and programs that promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the organization’s activities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, artist participants and their families/care givers, instructors, educational institutions, community partners, and corporate, governmental and individual donors and funders
- Oversee and support the recruitment, hiring, performance, and continuous development of staff and volunteers
- Plan and supervise H’art’s programming, events, exhibitions and performances
- Maintain a strong profile within the inclusive community arts sector and those facing barriers
- Knowledge and awareness of the values of inclusion, human capacity and empowerment as they apply to people with disabilities and developmental challenges
- Create and manage budgets and financial reports
- Develop and manage relationships with community partners, corporate, government, individual donors, and funders
- Seek out additional funding and grant opportunities and spearhead fundraising efforts
Goals and Expectations
- Expand H’art artist participant base from its current membership level
- Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies that promote H’art and its mandate/programs
- Expand the revenue base through growth in programming participation and through the cultivation of donors, sponsors, and grantors
- Streamline internal processes and workflows to improve operational efficiency and employee satisfaction and growth
- Advance the implementation of strategic plans developed in collaboration with the Board of Directors
- Manage the team of educators, administrators and volunteers
- Possess a high level of integrity, transparency, confidentiality, accountability, charismatic leadership and confidence
- Maintain a strong organizational profile within local, and broader, inclusive arts communities while providing opportunity for unique and engaging arts experiences, connection, and creative development and enjoyment
- Be an ambassador for inclusive access to arts and education
